Second Annual Mid-Atlantic Women’s Bonspiel   We have held our first bonspiel of the season (the second annual Mid Atlantic Women’s) and we thought the members, particularly the newer members, might like to know the full results and the history of this new event. It all began in December of 2004 when Maggie McMahon of the Philadelphia Curling Club approached the Mid Atlantic Clubs with the concept for hosting a Women’s Bonspiel. There were more women becoming interested in curling and attending Bonspiels, yet there were no women’s bonspiels scheduled at any of the Mid- Atlantic Clubs. Rotating an event among these four clubs would fill this void and allow each club to participate. Scheduling was going to be a problem.  Plainfield & Philadelphia were able to accommodate an early Bonspiel, but Potomac (because of the Inaugural) & Chesapeake (ice not available until late November) would host the first week in December. The December date was chosen to avoid conflict with the “Silver Belles” which is held at Broomstones every other year.   The concept was reviewed by the Plainfield Board of Directors and it was agreed that Plainfield would participate. There would be four events and the pins would represent each participating club. The order selected was by the date the club was established: 1st event - Philadelphia1957 2nd event - Potomac 1961 3rd event - Plainfield1963 4th event - Chesapeake 1979 The rotation schedule was determined as follows: Philadelphia (Oct. 2005), Plainfield (Oct. 2006), Potomac (Dec. 2007), Philadelphia (Oct. 2008), Chesapeake (Dec. 2009), Plainfield (Oct. 2010), Potomac (Dec. 2011), Philadelphia (Oct. 2012). Note: Philadelphia is hosting 2008 to avoid conflicting with the Silver Belles. It is confusing in that scheduling will not only rotate between clubs but also between October and December.
